Civic Humanities from Austin: Digital Archives, Neighbourhood History and Assessed Method

Abstract

This book chapter describes a Frontier humanities methods course using Twin Cities digital archives and oral histories, available to campus and online students with the same ethics review. The academic product is method, not civic branding. Students who could not travel still analysed collections; campus students still had to cite. Frontier Innovation University should keep civic humanities as assessed research training. A Austin university’s digital pathway can serve place without requiring a seat in a seminar room that seats thirty.
