Shift handoffs, tooling, and winter freight—not a PE stamp and not a Silicon Valley ‘ops’ MBA.
Online or on campus

Upper Midwest manufacturing is metals, food processing, medical devices, and job shops that cannot pretend they are software. This degree starts with the physical plant: maintenance backlog, tooling, quality escapes, and the labour market around the Twin Cities and Greater Minnesota. You will map a value stream that includes a snow day, write a quality memo that does not impersonate a PE, and brief a plant manager who has to make payroll Friday. Dual-pathway design is the product. Campus students do not get participation theatre that online students cannot access; online students do not get an easier exam. You state primary mode at application. Frontier’s HLC and DEAC story stays on the accreditation page; this MSc does not invent ABET or PE reciprocity. If a plant tour happens for campus students, the assessed artefact is a written operations analysis that an online student can complete from a redacted dataset. Upper Midwest labour markets, apprenticeship pipelines, and three-shift food plants sit beside medical-device job shops in the same metro. You will not be asked to impersonate a PE on a drawing stamp. You will be asked to explain scrap, changeover, and a customer scorecard to a plant manager who has to make payroll. Capstones that ‘optimise’ a factory that has never seen a Minnesota winter will be sent back. The award is academic operations. It is not a licence to practise engineering, not a lockout/tagout trainer card, not a promise of a union or management job. Public copy must keep those fences visible.
Thirty-six credits: plant systems, quality and maintenance literacy, Midwest logistics and labour, and an operations capstone. Three-credit courses. Identity-checked exams plus plant memos.
